Product Code:

DE_BU_SPIN_SQ_0.9_SVW

41 x 41mm PAR 4RC Spindle Tanalised, 15 Year Manufacturers Warranty , 0.9m

These softwood spindles are pressure treated (aka tanalised) for exterior use.  Manufactured at the same factories as our 38 x 125 redwood decking, 2.4 metre newel posts, 3.6 metre handrail plus many other softwood decking components. Tanalised 1100mm spindles are also stocked.

Product Details

Balustrade installations normally use the moulded redwood hand and base rail which are rebated for 41mm spindles. All the balustrading has a smooth planed finish to help put the finishing touches to your deck. ase rail profiles
Because of customer preference we keep flat-bottomed and rounded profile rails. The flat bottomed rail is normally used for base rail, or, alternatively as a "flat" hand rail. This allows the end user to balance cups or glasses on top of the balustrading.  Rounded finish rail is intended for use as a handrail. Both flat, and rounded, rails are pressure treated with preservative and are supplied at 3.6 metre lengths.

These softwood spindles are available 900mm and 1100mm lengths. The rails are rebated for 41mm spindles and most installers will use our 12mm x 41mm fillet for spacers. Fillet is available in 3.3 metre lengths to ensure correct and consistent spacing of no more than 100mm between spindles. When choosing spindle lengths/height you must take into account of any deck elevation. Deck edges raised 600mm, or higher, than the ground should use 1100mm spindles to comply with building regulations.

Most installers also raise the bottom rail by 50mm by cutting down a spindle into shorter lengths.  Two of these sections can then be used to slightly raise the base rail off the deck - allowing water and leaves to be easily swept off the deck.  Adding handrail, spindles and fillet involves some cutting of timber and an end-grain preservative must be used on these cross-cuts to validate the 15 Year Warranty.

Alternative 32mm spindle option

Finally an alternative spindle installation can be made using Southern Timber’s extensive range of planed timbers. Long lengths of spindling, usually 3.6 metre are stocked in ex 38mm x 38mm (32mm finish size) and 50mm x 50mm (44mm finish size) which can be cut to length and used in an American style balustrade. With 38mm spindling this would normally use 47mm x 100mm tanalised timber for handrail and baserail; with ex-50mm “spindling” it is more normal to use bigger sections such as the 38mm x 125mm smooth PAR deckboards.
