ex.16 x 100mm (fin.11 x 94) TGV Untreated
These cladding boards are machined from quality kiln dried redwood timber and left untreated for interior use. The TGV profile boards are designed so that each one interlocks with the adjoining boards. This still allows movement of timber when there changes in high (or low) moisture conditions, e.g. kitchen or conservatory. We also stock an ex.9mm x 100mm with a tanalised finish. This product can be a useful alternative for porches, soffits and hallways where there might be periods of rain or condensation. Without this extra level of protection the timber might not reach it's full service life.
The smaller TGV boards are ex 16mm x 100mm and finish at 11mm thick with a cover of 84mm. Board lengths vary from pack to pack but normally we aim to keep lengths at, or near, 3.6 metres (approx. 12') and 4.8 metres (approx. 16') in stock. TGV boards are still very popular for cladding interior walls and stud partitions, ceilings and roof joists, making doors and cupboards and bookcases. Sometimes these timbers are available in 3.9m or 5.1 metres
Although the timber is kiln dried it is still good practice to let the timber “condition” in the property. Store the timber cladding, preferably the same room, for 7-14 days before it is fixed into place. All wet trades should be finished and the plaster in the rooms must be thoroughly dried out. Traditionally TGV cladding is secret nailed with panel pins or very small ovals. Lost head nails can also be used, but take care not to split the tongues.
When the untreated TGV timber is first installed it will probably be very light in colour, a pale creamy colour. However, as this redwood timber becomes exposed to light the timbers colour will darken. By applying Osmo ‘Raw’ or Treatex ‘Natural’ Hardwax oil you can help to keep the timber colour similar to the shade when it was originally supplied.
The ex-100mm cladding has prooved popular over time. It can however look small on a larger wall and we have two alternative claddings. There is the traditional butt and bead cladding which is machined frrom 150mm x 16mm. This is a good coverage and is ideal fr cladding studwork and old walls but has limied integral strength in a stand alone partition. If there is a need for something more substantial then there is an ex.25mm x 150mm board. This board is described elsewhere as flooring but will form a good internal partition with some 3" x 2" studwork. The ex.25mm boards are also avaialable as a tanalised product for cladding the outisde of garages, summerhouses and untilty rooms. There is no external bead' n' butt but there is a slightly larger (ex.19 x 100) version of the untreated 16 x 100 cladding - but this is tanalised as well.
