Beaded Newel Posts
Firstly, these beaded newel posts are normally used for deck installation with machined handrails and spindles. We stock three sizes, 1.25 metre, 1.8 metre and 2.4 metres. They feature a squared profile with two lines of detail routed out at the top of the post and a truncated pointed top. They present an attractive, contemporary alternative to square posts. These posts are suitable for ground contact and will provide part of the support structure for decking installations.
These beaded newels are pressure treated with preservative to UC4 (user class 4). This makes them suitable for ground contact use and they can be used as part of your deck support framework. These posts are machined from 100mm timber and have a finished cross section of approximately 94mm x 94mm. Post lengths are as follows:
Planed Posts carried in stock
1.25 metre beaded newel, tanalised – bolt to frame or ground contact, use with rope or machined handrail/spindles
1.8 metre beaded newel, tanalised – deck frame support, ground contact, for handrail/baserail and spindles
2.4 metre beaded newel, tanalised – deck frame support, ground contact, for handrail/baserail and spindles
However, if you require even longer lengths then try the Southern Timber Planed posts These posts are machined in the same mill using 100mm timber and also finish at 94mm x 94mm.
Care of timber
Finally these beaded newel posts are pressure treated, therefore they may be damp when delivered. We store all our tanalised timber outdoors. Once the installation is finished it would be advisable to apply an extra coat of water repellent stain. This will slow water absorption and give the decking and balustrade timbers a more uniform colour and appearance. However, under no circumstances should the base of the newel post be cross-cut. Similarly any holes drilled (e.g. for rope) should be treated with end-grain treatment according to the manufacturers instructions.
