Timber rail details

Half-round rails can be used with square or round posts in fencing installations. These are 47mm x 100mm half-round timber rails, not the 75mm or 90mm rails sold by some other merchants. The rails are machine rounded for a smooth planed appearance and are uniform in appearance. These ‘Half Rounds’ are pressure treated with preservative, relatively light in weight and low in price. From a contractor’s point of view the flat side of the rail provides a good nail fix to the post.

Typical uses for half round rails

These solid timber rails are most often used as perimeter fencing around fields, horse paddocks and woodland boundaries. They maintain reasonable visibility across fields while keeping the perimeter fences livestock proof.  These rails can be used with square posts but seem to be used mainly with 88mm and 106mm round posts.  Posts might be rammed in larger agricultural fence runs, smaller domestic installations might prefer to set them in Remix quick setting concrete for posts.

Please note that although these rails are tanalised they are not suitable for cutting to short lengths as a substitute for log roll.

Half-round rail appearance

We try to maintain continuity of supply from one manufacturer but very occasionally we have to source them from other importers.  For this reason the finish of the rail may vary slightly.  Most often these fencing rails are 3.6 metres long with a chamfered end and machine truncated edges. Other times the rails might be 3.66 metres long with a machined semi-circular profile.  The rails we sell have a consistent appearance with a regular thickness and width.
