Softwood Ply

Softwood Ply

Shuttering Ply

Our starter softwood “shuttering ply” is designated G1 and we keep four thicknesses - 9mm; 12mm; 18mm and 24mm/25mm of this ply in stock.

The Ply face appearance may differ within a pack, because ply is graded more for strength and durability. Ply face appearance is generally a secondary consideration and would extend to knot count, knot size and whether the knot holes are filled.

The grade of ply allows plus, or minus, 1mm which means an 18mm ply may be anywhere between 17mm and 19mm.

Wisa branded Spruce ply

Our softwood spruce ply is WISA branded, a quality Finnish graded for its strength rather than for appearance. It is made from full width veneers which means the ply has minimal voids. While the ply may have small knots in the external face it is structurally graded, will deal with variations in moisture and it will cut into smaller sections.

These spruce plys are bonded with weather resistant glue according to EN 314-2/class 2.   The panels can have dimensional changes due to changes in the air humidity, therefore the manufacturer recommends leaving 1mm per metre expansion gaps between panels.

Wisa pressure treated ply

Three thicknesses of pressure treated ply (aka tanalised) are kept at our Devon yard. We keep 9mm, 12mm and 18mm in stock and the sheets are pressure treated with timber preservative during manufacture. The main objective is to improve the durability of a quality ply for use in humid and damp conditions
