Plasterboard

12.5mm Standard Plasterboards

Standard plasterboard is a layer of hardened plaster sandwiched between two layers of paper and used to line stud partitions or ceilings. Most plasterboards come with a white paper face, this is the front and will accept plastering and other finishes. The other side has a grey, thicker paper and not suitable for any finish.

At Southern Timber we stock mainly 12.5mm square edge plasterboard, it is most often used and provides increased rigidity. The usual sheet size is 2400 x 1200mm, smaller sizes may be specified for roof work because of their reduced weight and ease of handling.

Plasterboard types

We also stock other more specialised plasterboards. For example, all gypsum-based plasterboards offer some fire protection, but Gyproc Fireline offers improved performance. Specialist plaster-boards include Gyproc Moisture Resistant, Gyproc SoundBloc and Wallboard Duplex fire check.

Plasterboard products normally kept in stock include:

9.5mm standard square edge (2400mm x 1200mm);

12.5mm standard square edge (2400mm x 1200mm);

12.5mm standard sq. edge (1800mm x 900mm);

12.5mm Moisture Resistant Plasterboard (2400mm x 1200mm);

12.5mm SoundBloc Plasterboard (2400mm x 1200mm);

12.5mm Fireline plasterboard (2400mm x 1200mm);

12.5mm Wallboard Duplex Vaporcheck plasterboard (2400mm x 1200mm);

Why so many Plasterboards?

One example, during construction some tasks are easier to complete with more targeted building materials. Timber stud walls, or extensions, use more flammable materials than masonry walls. This fire risk can be reduced by using potential can be reduced, the boards can give 60 minutes of fire resistance from a single 12.5mm layer
