Moisture Resistant MDF

Moisture Resistant MDF is an engineered wood product. Normally sold in 2440mm x 1220mm sheets,the 18mm Moisture resistant MDF is our most popular selling MR board. 

MR MDF is invariably used in kitchens, utility room bathrooms, ensuites and toilets. Please note these boards are water-resistant and not waterproof mdf. If you want a waterproof MDF board then Tricoya Waterproof Extreme MDF might be an option. 

Properties of MDF

MDF is manufactured by bonding fine wood-fibres under pressure using a specialist resin adhesive. MDF is very consistent in thickness and structure, with dimensions fluctuating less when compared to either wood or ply.

Manufacturing MR MDF

MR MDF can be used successfully for kitchens, bathrooms, architectural mouldings, skirting boards, architraves, window boards, flooring and general interior joinery.

MR is suitable for interior humid conditions and is manufactured in accordance with EN 622, part 5. 

Moisture Resistant MDF must be sealed, primed and painted on all surfaces prior to installation, especially when placed next to damp plaster. MR MDF is not suitable for external applications.

MDF Precautions

Finally, MDF boards should ideally be cut outdoors or in a workshop with ventilation. This is because most MDF contains urea-formaldehyde, and some formaldehyde is released when MDF is cut.
