Pergola
It isn't always easy to differentiate between a Gazebo, a Pergola and a Canopy. A few guidlines might be helpful
Garden Pergolas
A timber structure that provides a partial shade is usually referred to as a Pergola. The pergola tends to be a fixed structure, say a seating area, but doesn’t need to be fitted permanently with benches, tables or chairs. Providing there is no canvas fitted to the structure a Pergola could be a good home for a chimera or fire-pit
Timber Gazebos
A gazebo tends to be a more substantial structure than a Pergola. The typical Gazebo will be roofed, maybe fitted with some decking and have some shelter on the sides. Neither a Gazebo, or a Pergola, is fixed to the house or garage.
Garden Canopy
It is quite possible we might call a garden structure a Canopy, but, because it is free-standing it is more accurately classified as a Pergola. Alternatively, the Rowlinson St. Tropez is wall mounted with some properties of a Gazebo but actually it is more of a Canopy.
