Flooring Softwood Accessories

Any flooring should benefit from a little extra time spent on the little extras, an extra investment to make a perfeId added ct installation. With softwood flooring comes to mind floorboard fixings, consumables such as wood fillers, and a choice of hardwax-oils for a protective finish.

Fixing your softwood flooring

This will depend largely on the subfloor; many established properties are still supported by wooden joists. Softwood floorboards can be secured with “secret fixings” which provide a very clean finish. Look at Tongue-Tite screws for ideas. Several customers have even face fixed their softwood boards using oval nails for a real rustic effect.

Alternatively, you can use an adhesive, Osmo Advance, to secure your boards to a solid concrete floor, or glue to a solid wooden sub-floor. In these circumstances the sub-floor suraface must be dry, level, and non-friable.

Installation and preparation

Once the floor is down you can check for any small blemishes that might benefit from some Osmo filler. These are water-based fillers in several different colours and can be mixed if required. Skirting can also be fitted at this stage, but don’t sand unnecessarily because sawdust can hang in the room before settling on the nice clean floor.

The finishing touches
