Pales & Picket fencing

Round Top Pales and Picket Fencing

Pales, round-top pales, arranged neatly with other traditional timber fence products - posts and horizontal rails.  These timber fences are also known as “picket fencing” and typically feature 900mm or 1200mm pales. This makes them high enough to form a garden boundary without interfering with the view.  We also stock 600mm and 1800mm round top pales.

Round Top Pale Fencing

Pales in a fence are normally spaced by the width, or the thickness, of the pale being used. Our round top pales have a smooth, planed finish and measure approximately 70mm wide by 20mm thick.  Most tradesmen prefer to use the 70mm width of a pale. This method uses fewer pales than 20mm spacing making the fence cheaper, and it also keeps the garden more open. The pales can also be painted once the timber is dry, using newer micro-porous such as Osmo Country Colour paint finishes are recommended.

These planed, smooth round pales can be combined with smooth, planed finish posts and rails. Tradesmen tend to use sawn materials or “CLS” 47mm x 100mm because the finished dimensions are ideal for fence rails (40mm x 90mm).  CLS timbers also have a smoother, regularised finish.

Pale gates are stocked at 900mm, 1200mm and 1800mm heights, all at 900mm widths. These gates feature mortice and tenon joints for extra strength. We also keep 1800mm wide pale panels in popular heights of 1200mm and 900mm.
