Accessories and Fixings

When installing a fence, or fence panels, there needs to be confidence in the materials and how they are utilised. For durable timber fences that look great too, we have fencing fixings to suit most projects.

Planning the fence

Working out fencing runs? Aerosol paint sprays mark the ground where the post holes are going to be dug. Similarly, a wrecking bar will help find where previous fence posts might still be situated. Photos with a mobile phone are useful reminders for the project and also a record of progress.

Installing the fence

Old battens along with quick-setting  PostCrete”, post levels, and builders buckets are invaluable. Panels are usually fixed with panel clips. Try and leave a pathway clear for occasional checks on wear and tear, and keep bindweed, and ivy, in check.

Ensuring longevity

When you are fencing please beware of cheap screws and nails. They tend to react with all timber preservatives including Tanalith. Nails and screws potentially rusting/bleeding down otherwise neat-looking feather edge boards. Stainless steel fixings usually avoid such issues especially if they aren’t driven too deep.

Protecting the timber

Fence panels with trellis and woven battens can be very, very time-consuming. Featheredge and lap fences are much easier to paint.  Pale fences and planed timber hit-and-miss maintain benefit from our natural oil finishes in a range of traditional and contemporary colours.
