Accessories for timber posts

Some accessories we may take for granted, e.g. Redimix Post Crete, but they are essential for completing a fencing post installation. Timber gateposts and timber gates need gate-hanging metalwork when a new gateway is added. Probably less obvious are posted accessories such as the Timco Post Level - almost as good as another pair of hands when setting timber posts

Post Anchors and Spikes

Ground anchors and spikes are complementary to quick-setting Postcrete.  Spikes are available for 75mm and 100mm sawn posts – they can also be used with planed posts but would need packing out to keep them stable.

Anchors can be used on concrete slabs, and fixed with masonry bolts. Available in 75mm, 100mm, and 150mm square. Also available are Post Bases which keep post ends out of mud and water.

Round Posts

Round posts sometimes benefit from Postsaver sleeves in addition to any factory pressure treatment. Postsaver sleeves protect the vulnerable area of posts just above, and just below, the soil level. For example, the longer gate posts (over 2.4 metres) are worth extra protection because of the post’s value and because of the work involved in post installation. Round (and square) posts should be treated where any holes have been made for post and gate furniture with end grain preservative.  When the fence is completed it is prudent to add a protective coat of Creostain which is a modern creosote alternative.
