Balustrade installations normally utilise 41mm rebated hand and base rail. We purchase our baulstrading rails, spindles, 41mm fillet and 100mm newel posts all from the same manufacturer. They also supply our dual profile deckboards, smooth decking and anti-slip boards as well.
The deck handrail has a pronounced round top profile to make it more comfortable to the hand. However, the flatter profiled base rail can also be used as a hand rail, it makes a useful resting place for cups and glasses. Both decking hand rail and the base rail are machined from the same redwood timber as our deckboard and spindles. All the balustrade components are kiln-dried timber allowing a smooth and stable planed timber finish.
Our decking hand-rail and base-rail come in 3.6 metre lengths and are designed for use with our ex- 100mm planed newel posts. These ex.100mm smooth planed posts are preferred for decking balustrades for the strength they offer. In practice our smooth planed 75mm posts are just not wide enough. Both baserail and handrail are rebated for the 41mm square spindles and 41mm x 12mm fillet.
Matching 41mm softwood spindles are available in straight lengths of 900mm and 1100mm. Please note that any decks 600mm, or higher, above ground level should use 1100mm spindles to comply with building regulations.
This product is pressure treated using Next generation TANALITH E wood preservative which provides a 15 year TREATED-RIGHT performance warranty against wood decay and insect attack (terms and conditions apply).
In 2015 we stopped selling turned newel posts and turned spindles although they are still available to special order. These turned products are mainly seen in traditional house interiors. However on large installs they can visually brighten up long runs of square spindles. This can be achieved by using one turned spindle for every three square spindles. Special orders for turned decking components usually take 3-5 working days
