Character Oak Flooring
Our Character Oak Flooring boards are tongue and groove along the long edges. These solid Oak boards are machined from Character grade American White Oak. We buy a specific production ensuring consistency of product. It has a lower moisture content compared to many boards; kiln dried down to 8-10 % which gives greater stability to the boards. This Suplier also provides a good length specification, usually around 3.05 metres and up to 4.5 metres. These boards can be secret fixed to battens or floor joists with Tongue-Tite stainless screws
Because the oak is a character rustic grade, it does display a variety of figuring and colour, with large and small knots and splits. Consequently we recommend allowing approximately 15% for wastage.
Board widths stocked
Boards are usually available in widths of 115mm, 140mm, 165mm, 200mm and 215mm widths. Board lengths and width will fluctuate so you might want to contact us before collection.
Using Character oak flooring
These boards are suitable for high traffic areas in the home, they are easy to maintain and can be sanded and refinished. We recommend acclimatising the oak floor boards in the room where the new oak floor is to be laid. This should happen at least 14 days prior to laying. The machined boards have a central tongue so that the boards can be turned over as required. We do not recommend using these boards with underfloor heating systems. If using adhesive it must be totally flexible Osmo MS Advance or (Sika -52/-54). If nailing or screwing, the battens in the subfloor then these battens must be totally seasoned and dry. If the timbers are wet then the moisture will be absorbed by the oak boards.
