Our Character Oak Flooring boards are tongue and groove along the long edges. These solid Oak boards are machined from Chartacter grade American White Oak. We buy a specific production to help maintain some consistency of product. These boards are kiln dried to 8-10 % to which gives a greater stability to them. This oak supplier also generates a reasonable range of lengths, typically in the 3.05m to 4.29 metre length range. Because the oak is a character grade there will be a variety of figuring which gives colour, with large and small knots and splits. Consequently you may want to allow for 15%-20% wastage . Osmo Polyx Hardwax Oil is available in clear finishes (matt, satin, satin-matt, natural and gloss) along with a range of Osmo Colour Tints
Board widths stocked
Boards are usually available in widths machined down to 115mm, 140mm, 165mm, 190mm and 215mm widths. Board lengths available will fluctuate in availability, if you intend to collect specific lengths then best to contact us first.
Using Character oak flooring
These boards are perfect for high traffic areas in the home, are easy to clean and maintain and can be sanded and refinished. We recommend acclimatising in the room that it is to be fitted for at least 14 days prior to laying. The machined boards have a central tongue so that the boards can be turned over as required. We do not recommend using these boards with underfloor heating systems. If using adhesive it must be totally flexible such as Osmo MS Advance or (Sika -52/-54). If nailing or screwing, the battens in the subfloor then these battens must be totally seasoned and dry. If the batten timbers are wet then the moisture will be absorbed by the oak boards.
