Stainless steel deck screws
Hardwood deckboards are very attractive, especially when wet. However, some deckboards might warp and twist if not fixed securely. Hardwood deck boards are best to be pre-drilled before fixing, impact drivers may snap the brittle stainless steel.
Decking screws don’t have to be invisible to be beautiful. Use A2 or A4 stainless steel deck screws and position them in the outer grooves for best fixing. See Deck-Tite 50mm Grade A4 or Deck-Tite 63mm Grade A4 stainless steel deck screws for more details.
OSMO sealing Wax.
When timber is crosscut there is a danger of water penetration, with deckboards they can swell and crack. Follow the OSMO sealing wax instructions to help maintain the beauty of your hardwood decking.
Hardwood decking oils.
Choosing decking oils for hardwood.can be difficult. Balau boards show a range of attractive Reddy -brown shades when first oiled, but they will need re-oiling depending on exposure to direct sunlight.
The Osmo Teak 07 decking oil is popular but provides no protection from the sun’s UV rays. The deckboards will gradually change from a warm brown to a grey after 2-3 years. If you want to keep some colour in the boards then you will need to buy a pigmented oil.
A final point, keep your hardwood deck clean. Do not be tempted to use a power hose on any deckboard, especially hardwood species. More details of this on this blog
