Tanalised Shiplap

Tanalised Shiplap

Our tanalised, or more accurately pressure treated, shiplap cladding is machined in the UK from quality Scandinavian redwood timber.  Shiplap remains a popular profile for many exterior buildings.

Tanalith-E preservative helps to prevent rot and decay, typical applications include garden sheds, playhouses, summerhouses, and workshops.  We keep good stocks of 19mm x 125mm; 19mm x 150mm; 25 x 150mm shiplaps and a 25 x 150mm Shadowgap profile. Our Shadowgap looks like a more contemporary cladding.

Each profile has a timber lap which allows for some board movement which occurs when timber responds to different weather conditions. After machining the boards are pressure treated with preservative to help maintain dimensional stability. These four shiplap profiles all benefit from the Araxda 15-Year Treated-Right Performance Warranty.

Shiplap and Timber sizes

Because our Shiplap products all have a planed finish they finish at a smaller size, then lose a little more in ‘the lap’. Each shiplap page has dimensional drawings with more accurate measurements for calculating meterage required to clad a building.  To give an idea a 19mm x 150 shiplap finishes at 14mm thick and has a 134mm cover.

These shiplap profiles can be used on a variety of buildings, any cross-cuts should be treated with an end grain preservative, we recommend Ronseal Decking End Grain Protector.

Oil based wood finishes

All our shiplap is pressure treated and will weather to a silvery-grey finish. The pressure treatment makes the cladding rot proof but not make it waterproof. Shiplap will need additional oil-based treatment, e.g. Osmo Country Colour to provide protection from moisture penetration.
