TGV
Western Red Cedar is carefully machined to produce TGV cladding, which remains a popular choice for exterior surfaces. This traditional building product is used in construction projects ranging from commercial buildings to residential properties. Architects and builders favour TGV boards for their light weight, ease of fixing and visual appearance.
The tongue and groove profile allows the cladding boards to interlock and neatly produce a sleek and uniform appearance. At Southern Timber, our TGV cladding is machined from Western Red Cedar for a smooth finish that will offer protection against harsh weather conditions. We also stock cedar shadow gap cladding which creates a more contemporary finish.
The Cedar for the TGV timber cladding is machined to ex-100mm and ex-150mm. This means the smaller boards (90mm cover) are suitable for projects including cladding soffits, gable ends, boathouses and garages. The larger TGV cedar boards have a 128mm cover and are more suited to cladding larger areas. Conversely the ex.100mm cedar boards have an 87mm cover and are generally suited to smaller scale carpentry and joinery projects.
When undertaking a Western Red Cedar project it is vital the builder uses stainless steel, copper or bronze fixings. Even galvanised and aluminium nails will adversley react with the high tannin levels within the cedar boards and produce vivid staining marks. Similarly, when positioning the timber you must be aware that the cedar might leach tannin and potentially stain adjoining light coloured render or gravel. Feel free to contact us for more details
