IRO

IRO timber combines modern manufacturing techniques with the traditional Japanese process of Yakisugi. This timber combines the inherent beauty of 100% natural timber with the benefits of kiln drying to produce a striking and uniquely coloured timber. This heat treatment means the IRO products will enjoy longer-life products and better UV stability.

IRO Decking and IRO cladding

IRO timber is currently used to provide 3 products: IRO decking, IRO external cladding and IRO internal cladding.  These three products are available in 5 core colours: Charcoal; Dolphin; Driftwood; Mountain and Natural. There is also an extended range of colours: Lagoon, Poppy; Sunflower; Sunset and Woodland. Most colours have a 7-10 days lead time

All the IRO timbers are either imported redwood, or homegrown larch. Timbers are kiln dried and heat treated to produce the unique IRO appearance. Both the external cladding and decking boards are then pressure treated to Use Class UC3, internal cladding to Use Class UC2. This pressure treatment is important for the longevity of the timber. Each colour timber has a refresh cream which should be used to treat cross-cut IRO boards. This cream can also be used to refresh the IRO timber and return the appearance to “almost new”.

IRO Decking installation – some tips from the manufacturer

The decking framework should be constructed to be free draining and well ventilated. To improve drainage, a small slope (aka a fall) should be built into the decked frame surface. The deckboard framework should be built so that the decking doesn’t touch we would recommend using UC4 deck joists and posts.

Where IRO deck-boards cross a joist they should be attached using two fixings. Fixings used must provide a long service life outdoors i.e. stainless steel or specialist coated deck screws.
