Featheredge boards and lengths

Without going into too much detail we thought we would answwer some typical issues with featheredge boards, or are they featheredge slats?  To add to the confusion they are also known as closeboarding. Featheredge is a traditional board commonly used in agricultral buildings.  Normal sized lengths are:

125mm width at 1.2m, 1.65m and 1.8 metres;

150mm width at 1.05m, 1.2m, 1.65m, 1.8m, 2.4m, 3.0m and 3.6 metres;

175mm width at 4.8 metres.

What overlap for the boards?

We keep in stock 125mm, 1S0mm and 175mm sawn featheredge boards.  The 125mm are intended to be used in fencing applications, the 150mm are available 2.4m/3.0m and 3.6 metre lengths making them more suitable for cladding garden sheds, workshops, field shelets and other similar outdoor buildings. Our 175mm featheredge is cut from thicker blanks and normally available in 4.8 metre lengths.  These featheredge boards are ideally suited to larger agriculatural buildings.

Why is a gravel board such a good idea

These Slatted fence panels are pressure treated with a light green preservative which mellows in colour when exposed to daylight. The panels can be supported using either 75mm (3”) or 100mm (4”) posts when installing. Our beaded newels offer a planed, decorative option for these contemporary panels. We carry sawn, planed and 15 year warranty post options in stock along with quick-setting Postcrete. Other associated products include 46mm Panel Clips, Gates, Stainless Steel Screws, Osmo Natural Woodstains and Planed Gravel Boards.  We also stock diamond lattice in 1800mm x 300mm and 1800mm x 600mm sizes, they could be included to bring up the height of 1200mm panel

Featheredge cladding

These Slatted Panels are stocked at 1800mm x 1800mm, 1800mm x 1500mm and 1800mm x 1200mm. Please note that imported panels are invariably 1800mm in width while British manufacturers still tend to produce panels at 1830mm.  The panel dimension 1200mm, 1500mm and 1800mm refer to the vertical height at the centre of each panel.

We also stock planed, tanalised timbers for those wanting to make their own, bespoke sized and style panels. Take a look at our planed timber page for more details.  Our  planed beaded newels would also make a good partner for these panels.
