Fence Rails - sawn and tanalised
38 x 88mm Sawn Pressure Treated Rails (FSC Mix)
Sawn, pressure treated fence rails are mainly used for featheredge fencing and "Post and rail". These fence rails are machined from unseasoned timber, then cut into popular lengths. All the timbers are pressure treated, aka tanalised, at the mill.
Fencing rail lengths
The most common use for 38 x 88mm rails is the framework for a featheredge fence. Our standard rail lengths are 3.0m, 3.6m, 4.2m and 4.8 metres which means that the post spacing can be varied to suit the installation site. Ideally rail Joints should be staggered so that the rails do not meet on the same post.
When installing a featheredge fence the posts will normally be concreted in. Under these circumstances a fast-selling postcrete such as Remix comes into its own. Once the post mix has cured the fencing rails can be screwed to the posts.
Fence Rails in use
If installing a post and rail fence then typically it will feature two, possible three, depending on the purpose for the fence. If larger animals (cattle or horses) are to be contained, then three rails would be preferable. Another option would be to use 47mm x 100mm timber for rails to create an even stronger fence. These 38 x 88mm sawn rails can also be used when constructing a vertical slatted fence. A popular combination would be 100mmm square posts, 3.6 metre rails and sawn 22mm x 100mm timber slats. The spacing for the vertical slats would depend if privacy was more important than fence longevity,
