Construction Timber from Southern Timber

Most structural buildings use mainly ex.50mm timber in floors, roof and studwork. At Southern Timber we stock Scandinavian C16/C24 stock, it is all pressure treated and regularised to minimise waste and make construction easier and quicker. Stock lengths run up to 6.0 metres from 47mm x 75mm right through to 47mm x 250mm

19mm and 25mm roofing batten

At Southern Timber we stock timber battens in a variety of sizes and specifications. The grade and size of batten is largely determined by the application.  Roofing battens are normally 25 x 50mm but also include 25 x 38mm and 38mm x 50mm. The BS5534 graded battens are vividly coloured and represent our most popular roofing batten. Battens are frequently used with our fibre cement HardiePlank and Western red cedar cladding options

We keep large stocks of 25mm and 38mm Sawn timbers. They are mainly used for cladding and fencing applications and therefore require no grading. The timbers used are most suitable for rustic, fencing and cladding, non-structural applications.  These boards are usually cut from fast growing trees in UK forests.  Most 25mm carcassing has a finished thickness of 22mm, the 38mm is approximately 35mm

All of our 22mm and 38mm sawn timbers are pressure treated with Tanalith or similar timber preservative. These timbers are intended for use above the ground level, any cross-cuts must be treated with two coats of Ensele end-grain preservative treatment.  We maintain large stocks of 150mm width sawn timber for use in the agricultural industry. Popular for use as “Yorkshire boarding” in barns and livestock buildings, lengths include 1.8m, 3.0m, 3.6m, 4.2m and 4.8 metres. Deliveries are made daily through most parts of Devon and Cornwall using our own transport fleet.

Regularised and graded timber

Most structural buildings use mainly ex.50mm timber in floors, roof and studwork. At Southern Timber we stock Scandinavian C16/C24 stock, it is all pressure treated and regularised to minimise waste and make construction easier and quicker. Stock lengths run up to 6.0 metres from 47mm x 75mm right through to 47mm x 250mm

Our imported structural timbers are kiln dried and then machine graded at the sawmills to BS4978 strength classes C16 and C24 (predominantly C24). We purchase packs of regularised timber, the timbers within each pack having consistent dimensions and a smoother planed finish than traditional sawn carcassing. Most regularised timber has “eased” edges, the machining processing means that the nominal sizes are reduced by approx. 2mm off the depth and 5mm off the width of the timber.

Scandinavian and Baltic stocks

We buy this regularised 75mm carcassing timber from Scandinavia because it allows us to offer high quality C16 and C24 Graded Timber stock. These imported timbers grow slower than home-grown timber, offering greater stability, higher grading levels and providing a better machined finish. Large quantities of 75mm carcassing are kept in stock, pricing is competitive and enquiries are welcomed for pack quantities. Stock turn is good across most of the 75mm range, we usually keep some back-up stocks elsewhere in the Yard and replenishment from the docks normally takes 3-5 days.
