Carcassing 47mm x 100mm Carcassing Kiln Dried Timber - C24 Stress Graded, Devon

Our top selling timbers are 47x100 and 47x150. Virtually all of our carcassing stock is strength graded at C24 and supplied by an established importer. This stock is imported from Sweden, because of the high quality and reliable supply. The timber is planed-all-round for consistency and easy handling. We deliver to Devon and Cornwall on a regular basis. Pressure treated with preservative.

Carcassing stock section sizes

We keep large quantities of 47mm carcassing while aiming to rotate stock as quickly as possible. Incoming carcassing deliveries from Scandinavia are received on a regular basis. Please note that because the imported timber is regularised and planed all-round most of our timber is now 44mm, we continue to use the 47mm terminology because that is what the building trade calls this product.

Most architects now specify C24 graded timber because of the longer spans thuis makes possible. However, the downside is that these timbers have to be imported. This is because our UK home-grown timber grows too quickly to achieve C24 grade.

Carcassing timber stocks are environmentally certificated, unless marked otherwise. We sell both FSC and PEFC certified timber. Both organisations are dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. The process includes independent timber audits and third-party certification

Carcassing timber lengths

Most of our carcassing timbers are stocked at multiples of 600mm intervals, that is 3.0m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m, 5.4m and 6.0m. There are a few exceptions including 47x75 which we normally keep at a maximum of 4.8 metres. It is possible to check current stock availability by viewing the webpage for the timber you require. Our stock levels are live, each stock transaction is updated as it happens.

The uses of carcassing timbers

Our carcassing timbers are Kiln Dried (KD) which gives them better stability then planed and regularised for a smooth and consistent finish. It is more pleasant to handle than most sawn carcassing. The finish is very similar to CLS timber. All of our carcassing timbers, with the exception of some CLS, is supplied pressure treated.

Popular uses for carcassing include floor joists, ceiling joists and roof rafters. The pressure treated (aka tanalised) carcassing is also used for decking joists and studwork. If these are exposed then further preservative treatment is advised to prolong service life. Again, for limited-protection timbers, a tin of Ronseal End Grain protector for any cross cuts in joists.

Other carcassing timbers

Additionally we also keep stocks of 75mm timbers in popular sizes, 75 x 100mm (4x3), 75 x 150mm (6x3), 75 x 175mm (7x3), 75 x 200mm (8x3) and 75 x 225mm (9x3). Carcassing lengths for 75mm width timbers are normally stocked at 3.6m, 4.8m and 6.0m.

We do not stock 100mm thick carcassing, it is only occasionally specified on a building. If the 100mm timbers are hidden from view then Building Control normally allow two as 50mm tick timbers bolted together. They usually require these timbers bolted together every 600mm with 12mm carriage bolts and square plate washers. The builder should verify this with Building Control before purchase.

If the build requires upward of 100mm, or 6.6metre plus lengths then we can usually obtain a price on graded timber or glulam beams.
