Our Specialist Phenolic Plys are sourced from quality suppliers across Europe; and are available in a range of sizes. From slip-resistant surfaces, to pre-primed boards, this range has got you covered! All of our Birch Plywood is fully legal and complies with international law.
Although phenolic plywood can be sourced from China and/or Russia we prefer to purchase Latvian ply products because of the higher quality. Phenolic birch plywood is backed up by Phenolic softwood ply which is usually a combination of hardwood and softwood, such as poplar or eucalyptus.
This range of Specialist Birch products are suitable for a variety of end applications, largely depending on whether the customer requires a durable smooth surface, or a textured ‘grip’ surface.
This Phenolic plywood is a sheet material made from a Birch plywood core overlaid with phenol film. The phenol ply offers wear resistance up to ten times compared to the standard surface. Smooth finish Phenolic supply is usually smooth both sides (smooth/smooth) but sometimes is purchased as smooth/mesh.
All phenolic plywood sheets are edge-sealed using an acrylic paint to reduce moisture penetration. These film-veneered plywood boards have enhanced resistance to insects, fungi, moisture penetration and chemicals. Their surfaces are also smooth and easy to maintain.
To make mesh plywood, a phenolic resin-impregnated film is hard-pressed on both surfaces of the plies under intense temperature and pressure. Typically one face veneer is smooth while a textured mesh pattern is pressed onto the other. It is this imprinted wire mesh pattern that enhances the non-slip characteristic of the mesh plywood.
Generally, the texture-surfaced plywood mesh is a multi-purpose and heavy-duty sheet material for applications that need a reliable, durable and anti-slip surface.
Phenol ply is highly resistant to wear and tear. As such, mesh plywood is preferred for transport applications such as trailer and truck flooring, boat decking, van flooring, horseboxes, flight cases etc.
Other applications include joinery, formwork, furniture, shopfitting, interior design, industrial floors, and storage racks.
