 Softwood pressure treated timber construction

Firstly, these five bar gates are made from a planed, smoother finished softwood timber than our normal field gates. The gates are made using pressure treated timber with mortise & tenon joints, but their smoother finish makes them suitable for use as driveway gates. They are also available to order in hardwood, either Iroko or Sapele.  The distance between the bottom of the hanging stile (upright) and the top of the top horizontal is approximately 1100mm

Left hand or right hand hanging?

Our driveway gates are normally made as left-hanging, but can be made as right hanging to order. To work out whether you need left hand, or right-hand hanging gates visualise standing outside the property looking inwards – whichever post the gate will be hinged (or hung) on dictates if it is left or right hand.  Therefore, please advise when ordering gates if they are being hung as a pair (that would need 1 left and 1 right) or whether they are being hung independently of one another.

Stocked sizes and bespoke gates

Diamond braced field gates are normally stocked in sizes from 3′ gates primarily for pedestrian use, up to 12’ gates more suitable for vehicle use.  They are stocked in 1’ increments but bespoke sizes can be made to order, to the nearest inch, up to a maximum size of 15’.  Therefore, pricing is simple, an 11’ 4” gate would be charged at the same rate as a 12’ gate

Gate Post sizes and gate furniture

Because we sell driveway and field gates we also carry a range of suitable softwood wooden posts and a comprehensive range of gate furniture.  Minimum sized wooden posts would normally be 125mm x 125mm for 3’ and 4’ gates, 150mm posts for 5’ to 7’ gates and 175mm or 200mm gates for 8’ to 12’.

Finally, there is a choice of gate hanging sets or separate gate hanging products for less typical gate installations. Packed field-gate hanging sets are offered in a choice of 300mm, 450mm and 600m sizes and also as standard or adjustable fixings.  Moreover, we can also order other specialist gate fixings from the Birkdale, Perry Hinges and From the Anvil accessories ranges.
