12mm G1 Structural Ply (EN314-2 Class 3 (WBP) EN636-2, CE2+) (PEFC Certified), 2440 x 1220mm
At Southern Timber we supply a wide variety of structural ply, OSB, MDF and chipboard sheet products. Located near Newton Abbot the depot at Southern Timber is ideally located to distribute these sheet materials throughout South Devon, Exeter, Plymouth and parts of Cornwall.
We normally purchase a pine faced ply which is manufactured in China, the ply is structurally graded and conforms to EN standards 636 and 314. Our usual structural plys utilises poplar for the core veneers, from time to time we purchase other brands of softwood ply depending on market prices and availability.
EN314 relates to bonding quality, this quality is determined by the type of adhesive and the quality of the core veneer. The structural ply conforms to Bond Class II making it suitable for use in humid areas or exposure to occasional wetting.
EN 636 takes into account the bond quality and the biological durability of the wood species used in the plywood. This biological durability refers to the natural capability of the wood to resist the detrimental effects of fungal decay and beetle larvae. The G2 ply conforms to Specification Class II making it suitable for use in humid areas or exposure to occasional wetting.
Whatever class a ply might achieve the product still requires finishing with a product suitable for the specific application. Even marine ply needs careful application of an appropriate water resistant finish which must be applied when the ply is dry enough for the finish to adhere.
This structural ply can be used in a wide range of constructional applications: e.g. concrete shuttering; structural walls with studwork; site hoarding; shed walls, roofing & flooring among others. Edge and face finish is generally better than the lowest price Plys, but once again this ply is not recommended for cutting into smaller pieces. If you require a ply which can be cut into this is important then please speak to a member of staff who can advise on a more suitable product for your purpose.
We currently keep four thicknesses of structural ply, these are all 2440mm x 1220mm (8′ x 4′) sheets. Pack quantities 9mm (100 sheets), 12mm (75 sheets), 18mm (50 sheets) and 24mm/25mm (normally 35 sheets), lead time a minimum 3 days
The Ply face appearance will differ from pack to pack, but this occurs with almost all plys, whether they are a low priced softwood or a more expensive hardwood. Most ply is graded for its strength and durability, the face appearance of a ply is generally a secondary consideration and would extend to knot count, size and whether the knot holes are filled.
Stocked 9mm (3/8″), 12mm (1/2″), 18mm (3/4″) and 24mm/25mm (1.0″)
